The newest soap, which is actually the same scent-combo in a new color and blend of oils:

BREATHE (formerly known as “Breathe Deeply”)

This has been my second-best-seller, after the Honey Almond Oatmeal, and I think it smells wonderfully and really helps open my lungs in the shower.

The oil blend that I used this time has more Olive and Coconut Oil but no Palm Oil. I have given up on palm oil after reading about the grave effects its harvesting has had on the Indonesian rainforest, and the fact that it often involves slave labor.

The respiratory benefit comes from a combination of Peppermint, Tea Tree, Lavender and Cedarwood Essential Oils.

Menthol is abundant in Peppermint oil, and is an extremely effective expectorant present in chest rubs and nasal sprays.

Tea Tree oil has been shown to have antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiviral properties, as well as being an expectorant and stimulant.

Lavender oil is commonly used for its antidepressant, expectorant and antiseptic properties.

Cedarwood has antispasmodic and expectorant properties, and is used as a fungicide.

My newest soap! I just made it yesterday, and here it is, freshly unwrapped from its freezer paper cocoon.

It was made using Olive, Coconut, Avocado and Castor Oils. The olive and avocado make it smooth and creamy, while the coconut and castor oils make it bubbly.

I used green mica and brown oxide for color, and layered it to give the impression of something green growing from brown earth.

I added essential oils of Lavender, Bergamot and Clary Sage.

Lavender is perhaps best known for its calming and sedative properties, but few people realize that it is also anti-bacterial. This makes it a great ingredient for soap, which is so often used to scrub clean and bring calm at the end of a cruddy day.

Bergamot has a fresh, citrusy and slightly floral aroma that I think pairs well with Lavender. It is indicated as a stress reliever and can relieve discomfort from rashes, psoriasis, cold sores and other skin irritations. Bergamot is what gives Earl Grey Tea its distinctive flavor.

Clary Sage has an earthy, herbaceous scent. It supports cell growth and contains phytoestrogen, so it can be good for women especially when they are feeling stressed.

Visited the Sunflower Farm in Rutledge, GA over the weekend.

It was hotter than Hades. The temperature topped out at 108° in the shade. I actually saw several people get carried off on stretchers, while I sat there miserably fanning myself and rubbing ice cubes on my neck, fearing for my own life.

Although the experience was hardly what I could call fun, I did meet some adorable characters. I am overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers and excellent conversation that these “crafty folk” dispense.

I will apply for the festival again next year and hope for cooler weather.

My old-fashioned Shaving Soap contains Coconut and Babassu Oils, which are notorious for producing a very thick, lofty and bubbly lather.

Besides the bubbly oils, I have also added Bentonite Clay and Colloidal Oatmeal to the mix. The clay draws impurities out of the skin and prevents slippage. Colloidal oatmeal soothes itchy, dry skin and helps relieve the effects of eczema, acne and psoriasis.

This glycerin soap has been scented with essential oils of Peppermint, Rosemary and Tangerine. If you inhale deeply while washing with this soap, it will invigorate your mind and clear your sinuses at the same time.

I decided to call it “Fresh Morning.”
